Watch Hollywood Chick-Fil-A Supporters And Protestors Explain Their Position

August 3rd 2012 in Perez

Well this is fun!

A camera crew went down to the Hollywood Chick-fil-A location on Mike Huckabee’s “Appreciation Day” to get reactions from supporters of Dan Cathy’s “free speech” and those protesting his definition of what a family is, as well as his efforts to use his family’s fortune to oppress the LGBT community.

While protestors surrounding the building shouted “equality for all”, others cited the same old rhetoric used to discriminate against homosexuals.

Reverend Jessie Lee Peterson, for example, states this compelling argument in favor of Chick-fil-A:

“The president of this organization was right when he said that marriage was between a man and a woman and he has the right to say that. Also, homosexuality is not about love. It’s not about family. It’s not about civil rights. It’s about sex. And these folks are trying to impose an abnormal lifestyle upon America. And it’s okay for them to be okay if they want as long as they do it in private.”

LOLz! That’s classic Reverend Peterson for ya! Remember when he said that “one of the greatest mistakes America made was to allow women the opportunity to vote.”

Let’s discuss his most recent public speaking blunder, shall we?

First of all, we AGREE with the second statement in the first sentence. Yes, people have the right to freely speak about their opposition to gay marriage. Shout it from the rooftops, protest all you want, but PLEASE don’t cross the line and let your personal beliefs affect the legal rights of others.

The rest of his statement, on the other hand, is about as strong as a 90-year-old’s sphincter muscle.

If “homosexuality is not about love” and just sex, then why are so many gay couples wasting their time trying to get married? Guess that means “traditional marriage” must not be about love in this guy’s mind either. Maybe he’s using the biblical definition in which a father transfers the property rights over his daughter to her husband. By the way, in this biblical explanation of holy matrimony, the woman has no say in the matter.

And no, the LGBT community is not trying to “impose an abnormal lifestyle upon America.” They simply want to be accepted and treated as equals, which means they want to get married to the love of their life and enjoy the legal benefits that come with that union. The assumption that gay people want straight people to abandon their natural sexual orientation is preposterous.

So watch the video (above) for yourself to get more perspectives on the issue which has taken America by storm.

Based on the Reverend’s comments, it doesn’t really sound like he’s worried about the “free speech” issue as much as he’s worried about what really sparked this debate in the first place — using religion as an excuse to deprive gay people of equality!
