Lion King Conquers Broadway Box Office!

*Insert your terribly misinterpreted Circle Of Life lyrics here*

Looks like Lion King has taken the crown at the Broadway box office!!!

The popular play adaptation of the animated Disney classic has become Broadway’s BIGGEST earner of ALL-TIME!

The production snagged the title off of The Phantom Of The Opera, after bringing in a cumulative amount of $853,846,062 as opposed to Phantom‘s $853,122,847!

This is even more of an ENORMOUS accomplishment seeing as Phantom has been on Broadway since 1988, whereas Lion King opened in 1997!

Just this past week, Lion King raked in over $2 million, with Phantom following close behind, making about $1.2 million!

Music historian and biographer Cary Ginell explains Lion King’s appeal, saying:

“It’s a spectacle that satisfies on many different sensory elements — audio, visually, emotionally. It’s also good for all ages — just like Disneyland is. For the kids, it’s the visual elements — the colors, the costumes and the puppetry. For the adults, it’s ‘Hamlet,’ basically. And the music is not geared to one age or gender or race. It’s as universal a show can get.”

SO true!!

Phantom fans, don’t be too sad — the play still takes the title of the longest-running show in Broadway history and is still a worldwide success!

Congrats, Lion King!!!!

Which show do U like better???

One source says:
“Lily has been in the studio trying different sounds and writing new tracks…When Lily retired [...]
